The importance of uniformity in headshots on your website

If you’ve followed the October Dreams blog for a while, then you know what we always say: consistency is key in branding! Yes, that even applies to images on your business website, right down to employee headshots and company pictures. Here’s why it’s important to maintain uniformity in your website’s photos.

Avoid inconsistency

Adding a headshot to every employee on your website is a great way for customers and clients to put a name to a face. You might choose to have everyone upload traditional headshots, or get a little more creative with something like illustrations. Whatever the case may be, though, just make sure everyone stays consistent. For example, if you have high-quality, professional headshots posted for company executives but lower-level employees upload selfies, it’s going to look like there’s a divide between positions in the company.

Keep things visually pleasing

Another benefit of uniformity is that it makes the photos on your website look more visually pleasing. If one person has an illustration for their headshot and another has a selfie and another has a professional headshot, your website will look off. Make sure everyone is on the same page about what photos to use!

Make sure photos are updated every few years

When you’re putting a face to a name, that face should be an accurate depiction of the person. If someone is with your company for several years, you’ll want to make sure their headshots are updated every once in a while rather than using one that’s 10 years old. That’s especially true if the employee meets with clients or customers often — photos help the clients/customers know who to look for.

You don’t have to change things every time someone dyes their hair a different color, but any drastic and permanent changes to appearance might call for an updated headshot.
